Леонид Утёсов (real name Лазарь Иосифович Вайсбейн ) was a Soviet pop artist, born on March 22, 1895, in Odessa, Ukraine. He became a key figure in the Russian pop scene, performing songs in genres ranging from urban romances to Soviet popular songs. Утёсов was not only a singer but also an actor, master of ceremonies, and orchestra leader. His orchestra, known as Теа-джаз , became the first jazz group in the USSR. Among his famous songs are "From the Odessa Kichman" and "By the Black Sea." Леонид Утёсов made a significant contribution to the development of Soviet musical culture.
