Пришёл проповедник в село: он к людям хотел обратиться.
Вдруг видит, что в первом ряду сидит только конюх один.
Какое решенье принять: уйти ли ему, извиниться,
Остаться ли, слово сказать, не зря ж он сюда приходил?
Подумав, решил он спросить, что конюх на это ответит:
— Скажи мне, вот ты тут один, и надо ли мне говорить?
Тут конюх плечами пожал: «Да я ведь простой человек-то!
Но коли спросили меня, попробую вам объяснить.
В конюшню когда я приду, а лошади все разбежались,
То если осталась одна, я ей насыпаю овса".
Он снова плечами пожал, и лектор почувствовал жалость
И пламенно стал говорить про то, во что верил он сам.
И он говорил, говорил, и весь как-то преобразился…
Два с лишним, пожалуй, часа та проповедь длилась его.
А после, довольный собой, он к конюху вновь обратился:
— Ну, как тебе лекция, брат?
Ну, что ты молчишь?
Ничего?
— Да я ведь простой человек, — тут конюх захлопал глазами, —
Но если в конюшню приду, и лошадь одна там стоит,
Конечно, её накормлю, но корма всего не отдам я,
А столько насыплю овса, что дать ей одной надлежит.

A preacher came to the village: he wanted to address the people.
Suddenly he sees that only one groom is sitting in the first row.
What decision to make: whether to leave him, apologize,
Should he stay, say a word, didn’t he come here in vain?
After thinking, he decided to ask what the groom would answer:
"Tell me, you're alone here, and do I need to talk?"
Then the groom shrugged his shoulders: “Yes, I’m a simple person!
But if you asked me, I'll try to explain to you.
To the stable when I come, and the horses all fled,
Then if she is left alone, I pour oats for her."
He shrugged his shoulders again, and the lecturer felt sorry
And ardently began to talk about what he himself believed.
And he spoke and spoke, and somehow his whole body was transformed...
For more than two hours, perhaps, that sermon lasted him.
And then, pleased with himself, he again turned to the groom:
- Well, how do you like the lecture, brother?
Well, what are you silent?
Nothing?
- Yes, I'm a simple person, - then the groom blinked his eyes, -
But if I come to the stable, and the horse is standing there alone,
Of course, I will feed her, but I won’t give all the food,
And I will pour so much oats that it is necessary to give her one.
