Irgendwas verriet mich ganz
Offensichtlich auf Distanz
Also hab' ich eingeseh’n:
Hier muss man subtil vorgeh’n
Um sich nicht zu unterscheiden
Hilft oft schon, sich zu verkleiden
Einen Burnus zu gebrauchen
Und schon kann man untertauchen
Gar mit einem Fez geziert
Wird man sofort akzeptiert
Also kauft' ich, kurzer Hand
Kopfbedeckung und Gewand
Um noch wen’ger aufzufallen
Trug ich einen Teppichballen
Und ich ließ mir dazu noch eben
Dolch und Wasserpfeife geben
Unauffällig wie ich war
Ging ich schnurstracks zum Basar
Zögernd stand ich noch davor —
Da grölte schon der Händler Chor:

Mann aus Alemania!»
Dieser Fehlschlag nun verdross
Mich doch sehr, und ich beschloss
Dem Erkennungsphänomen
Ganz bis auf den Grund zu geh’n
Um mich völlig zu entstellen
Behäng'ich mich mit Eisbärfellen
Einem Kimono voller Motten
Und dem Rock von einem Schotten
Einen grauen Paletot
Und roch wie ein Eskimo
So gelangt' ich unerkannt
Durch die Altstadt bis zum Strand
Blieb dort eine Zeit lang stehen
Um den Fischern zuzusehen —
Netze knüpfen, Boote teeren —
Die musst' ich erst mal belehren
Wie man so was richtig macht
Und hab' ihnen beigebracht
Wie man rationell Angeln baut —
Da jubelten die Fischer laut:
«Guck mal, ach nee sieh mal da:
Mann aus Alemania!»
Dann hab' ichs nochmal versucht
Und die Wüstentour gebucht
Für zweihundert Mark in bar
Lieh man mir ein Dromedar
Hab' das Wüstenschiff erklommen
Und bin vom Weg abgekommen —
Traf nicht mal mehr Amerikaner
Nur noch eine Fata Morgana
Stundenlang bin ich verwirrt
In der Wüste rumgeirrt
Dann traf ich eine Person
«Hallo», rief ich, «Wüstensohn!
Wo geht’s denn hier zur Kantine
Hör mal alter Beduine

Ich hab' meine Bierdurstphase —

Tags darauf trat ich alsdann
Schwer enttäuscht den Heimflug an
So schloss mein Experiment —
Rätselhafter Orient
Die Versuche, Land und Leute
Zu studier’n, war’n eine Pleite
Trotz Verkleidung und trotz allen
Listen bin ich aufgefallen
Überall sofort erkannt
Als ein Mann aus deutschem Land
Ohne jemals zu versteh’n
Wo dran die denn das bloß seh’n
Erst in Frankfurt nach der Landung
Kam die wundersame Wandlung
Als ich mein Gepäck abholte
Und der Zöllner wissen wollte
Was ich anzumelden hab'
Und ich nicht gleich Antwort gab
Sagte mir der Mann vom Zoll
Väterlich und mitleidsvoll:
