
Compay Segundo (real name Francisco Repillado) was a Cuban singer and songwriter, born on November 18, 1907, in Cuba. He rose to prominence as a key member of the Buena Vista Social Club , which revived interest in traditional Cuban music. In his youth, he studied solfeggio and played clarinet in the Santiago Music Orchestra under maestro Enrique Bueno. Among his most famous compositions is "Chan Chan" which has become a hallmark of Cuban music. Compay Segundo made a significant contribution to the popularization of Latin American music on the international stage.
