Пять дней средь елей, камня и воды
Ничем не скован, не обременен
Ходил, и всюду находил следы
Двух ипостасей века, двух времен.
Вокруг башен пролегал глубокий ров,
Но ров — уже не ров, а так, овраг.
И спорит сообразность куполов
С несообразным здесь «шестой барак»…
А в тысяча тридцать сумрачном году,
Попав в сии священные места,
Какой-то зек соорудил звезду
На месте православного креста.
Как он забрался — знает только Бог, —
Погнал ли страх, не подвела рука,
Но он залез — ему скостили срок,
А нам осталась память на века.
Да будет так — пусть Соловки хранят
Студеный ветер тех недавних лет.
И в Божьем храме против царских врат
Пусть проступает надпись «Лазарет».
Я слышал, — реставраторы грозят
Весь этот остров превратить в музей.
Я вот боюсь, — они не сообразят
Какой из двух музеев нам важней.

There are two steps from vanity to melancholy.

I heard that the restorers are threatening
Turn this whole island into a museum.
I'm afraid - they won't realize
