J’attendis plus d’une heure côté Quai des Orfèvres,
j’allais repartir quand une jeune femme qui lui ressemblait s’approcha
timidement de moi.
Sous mes pieds, les pavés sont devenus tout mous.
Peter avait eu un accident.
Peter, l’homme du Pont s’appelait Peter.

je ne l’ai pas fait.
Je n’ai pas réussi à articuler un mot.

il pleut, de ces pluies glacées de l’hiver, sans éclat, sans charme, sans rien.
Je vis loin des lumières dans un endroit où il n’y a pas de fleuve.
Ma chambre donne côté jardin.
Comment ai-je pu laisser repartir cette jeune
femme sans un mot de réconfort, sans lui demander son adresse, ou l’adresse de
l’hôpital?
Elle aussi avait un petit accent.
L’homme du Pont est-il encore
Vivant?
Je dors chaque jour un peu plus mal.
Je me réveille en lui parlant.
J’ai rêvé l’autre nuit que le pont s'écroulait dans un tremblement de terre.
Et puis l’instant d’après, c'était la ville entière qui tombait en poussière,
et le pont qui tenait debout, tout seul, préservé par la force magique de
notre lien.
L’instant d’après, encore, le pont se mettait à fondre,
il s’agenouillait dans l’eau comme un cheval blessé, pliait l'échine,
puis se disloquait en silence.
Ça m’agace, cette image, comme une pomme acide agace les dents.
Si au moins il
y avait eu du bruit… Le corps se raidit, il ne veut pas que ça se termine.
Peter, il s’appelait Peter, Pierre en français, l’homme du Pont.
