There is no sign of attire on the strange ghost,
One cardboard crown from a masquerade
Which is merged with his bony forehead.
He drove the horse without spurs and without a whip.
And the ghostly horse is pale under a ghostly cloud
He drops foam from his lips, as in an epileptic fit.
Two shadows crashed into space, the path is open,
And eternity flies like sparks from under the hooves.
He raised a flaming sword above the crowd
And he drives a horse over the bodies of the defeated.
Like a thrifty prince he makes a detour
