Полюбила принца королевна и из дома к принцу убежала.
«Друг мой светлый, друг мой самый верный сбереги меня», — ему сказала.
Ясный принц раскрыл ей двери настежь, заключил в сердечные объятья,
И уже казалось близким счастье в белокрылом подвенечном платье.
Грянул гром неведомо откуда, задрожало всё и заскрипело
И исчезло сказочное чудо, превратившись в дым окаменелый.
И домой вернулась королевна вся в слезах, в чертополохе, в глине,
Опоённая любовью первой к матери она пришла с повинной.
И сказала мать ей, тихо плача: «Мне твоих повинных слов не надо,
Мне б коснуться рук твоих горячих, мне б твоим согреться нежным взглядом.
А за то, что к принцу убежала, не корю тебя, не упрекаю,
Я ж тебя не раз предупреждала, что душа у принца колдовская».
