| En mi cuidado jardn
| In my careful garden
| Esbelto, altivo y gallardo,
| Slender, proud and gallant,
| Floreci un silvestre cardo,
| A wild thistle blossomed,
| Con sus penachos de tul;
| With its plumes of tulle;
| Y el roco con su manto
| And the rock with its cloak
| Que de perlas pareca,
| What pearls it seemed,
| Al amanecer cubra
| at dawn cover
| Las hebras del cardo azul.
| The threads of the blue thistle.
| Pero el beso de la aurora
| But the kiss of the dawn
| Que el sol radiante le enviaba,
| That the radiant sun sent him,
| Con sus besos desfloraba
| With her kisses he deflowered
| Aquel manto de arrebol;
| That mantle of red;
| En finsimas lloviznas
| In fine drizzles
| Caan las perlas al suelo,
| The pearls fell to the ground,
| Y tan azul como el cielo,
| And as blue as the sky,
| Quedaba otra vez la flor.
| The flower remained again.
| Ya no muestras a la aurora
| You no longer show the dawn
| El jopel de tu hermosura,
| The jopel of your beauty,
| Ya no encanta la frescura
| no longer love freshness
| De tus penachos de tul;
| Of your plumes of tulle;
| Y al mirarte marchitado
| And looking at you withered
| Sin candor y sin esencia,
| Without candor and without essence,
| Ya no halagas mi existencia
| You no longer flatter my existence
| Pobrecito cardo azul. | Poor little blue thistle. |
