| Blacktop, then gravel road
| Leading the way away from the comfort of home.
| Roll the window down,
| Stick an arm out and wave.
| Finally on the road.
| Watch the wire loop slack between the telephone poles
| Scallop endlessly.
| Glimpse a wooden house,
| A school bus,
| An old chair in need of repair…
| I spy in the field an astronaut,
| Or could be just someone keeping bees.
| Dandelions are growing everywhere,
| A shock of coulour in a sea of green.
| What if I could make a wish and make this all disappear?
| What if I could make a wish and make this all appear?
| Race the growing, the shrinking car shadow following along on the side of the
| road,
| Searching for a spot to stop to buy a bomb pop and watch the marching parade.
| I see in the pitch-dark the glow of a lit cigarette dancing on the highway,
| Then fireflies taking snapshots in the park
| Take a picture of me.
| I spy- ahhhh…
| Shhhh…
| I spy…
| What if I?
| What if I could?
| Strong chance this will never be here again.
| Good, bad- I will never be right here again.
| What if I?
| What if I?
| What if I could make a wish and make this all disappear?
| What if I could have my way and make this all appear?
| What if I?
| What if I?
| What if I could?
| What if I?
| What if I? |
