| You don’t lie to me, and for all of your poison I enjoy your company
| All the colors that you hide behind your mouth like poetry
| As you slowly take me prisoner I swallow up the key
| Don’t call and don’t write, you’re quietly courageous and we own the night,
| naked and contagious we turn off the lights hoping that nobody hears us
| And no fortune lady is gonna come and save me
| No god will ride the escalator down to the Midwest
| And I might be crazy but at least I got my baby and we’re free inside the bars
| that keep us deep within my chest
| When I was small, long long before I knew you
| I knew how to stand tall
| I knew how to breathe without you
| And I spoke to the dead before I learned how to fear them, they sat with me on
| my bed
| Watched me as I slept and I felt safe and sound
| A leader with my confidence, I cut the evil down with a sword of common sense
| I took care of things I loved with all my heart
| What happened to these things? |
| It’s like I woke up in my future…
| And no fortune lady is gonna come and save me
| No god will ride the escalator down to the Midwest
| And I might be crazy but at least I got my baby and we’re free inside the bars
| that keep us deep within my chest |
