Jet Harris was an English rock and roll musician born in 1939 in the United Kingdom. He rose to prominence as the original bass guitarist for The Shadows , the backing band for Cliff Richard . He played with the band until April 1962, after which he embarked on a solo career. One of his most successful projects was a duet with The Shadows drummer, Tony Meehan . Their single " Diamonds " reached the top of the UK charts in 1963. Jet Harris made a significant contribution to the development of rock music, popularizing the bass guitar as a leading instrument.
