Avenged Sevenfold , also known as A7X , is an American metal band from Huntington Beach, California, formed in 1999. Its current lineup consists of vocalist M. Shadows , rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance , lead guitarist Synyster Gates , bassist Johnny Christ , and drummer Brooks Wackerman . The band is known for albums such as "City of Evil" and "Nightmare" , the latter of which debuted at number one on Billboard 200 chart. Their hits, including "Bat Country" and "Hail to the King" have become iconic in the genre. Avenged Sevenfold has made significant contributions to the development of modern metal music.
