Through the years I’ve made big paintings
Of lots of things that made us think
And millions and millions of famous people too
Dear Thelonious, Winston Churchill, Joe Orton and Georgie Best
To name but a few but of course none compare with you
Cos they all get left behind
When I have you on my mind
You mean so much to me
Far more than any gallery
Red, orange, green, blue and indigo
Are just some up the colours you wear
I follow the rainbow
Expecting to find you there
Oh oh, I’ve made a big painting
Oh oh, right across the sky
Oh oh, I’v made a big painting of you
Cos you’re the rason why I feel quite good
Come and see my masterpiece
It took a lifetime I hope you’ll like it
I’m sure you’ll think it’s nice
You made me happy you made me smile
So I took my paint box and painted across the skies
