Ordinary People, Ordinary Lives
Melissa likes spending money
Georgie’s so well-groomed
They go sipping cocktails
Friday afternoon
They’re ordinary people, ordinary lives
Ordinary people, ordinary lives
I’ve been getting paid by the hour
Taking pictures of what they do
Melissa says something funny
And Georgie’s not amused
He pays the check and hits the head
I wonder what she’s like in bed
I follow them on their way home
Just something that I do for fun
I’ve been watching for hours
Through the curtains in their room
And Georgie’s feeling sexy
And Melissa, she’s not in the mood
For ordinary people with ordinary lives
Ordinary people, ordinary lies

He seems to be singing from the POV of an “unreliable narrator;” he initially says he’s “been getting paid by the hour, for taking pictures of what they do,” then later he seems to contradict himself by saying that following them is “something that I do for fun.” Has kind of a “stalkerish” vibe to the song, like maybe he and Melissa used to be a thing and the narrator hasn’t moved on from it yet.
