| Orpheus he played, his lyre and sang to the Underworld.
| Descended into Hades, charmed the tortured souls therein.
| He had to find his wife, and bring her back to life again.
| His beloved Eurydice was a nymph of oak, but she,
| met her cruel end, when bitten by a snake when she was running away from
| Aristaeus along the river bank.
| The Gods they did agree, to let her go as long as he,
| never turned behind as they ascended up again.
| But Orpheus he did not trust, and turned around to see.
| So Orpheus lost his, beloved to the Underworld.
| And Hades turned away, from all his please so tragically.
| Poor Orpheus, melodious.
| He never wed again.
| Orpheus was killed, by all the lovers he had spurned.
| They came at him with stones and clubs and tore him to pieces.
| He only had his lyre and the muses wept for him. |
