| And we packed up our bags in the middle of the day
| Cracked my first smile in a long time and I watched that motel fade
| 101 South bound to that 156 try and build a stable life on the fault line of
| San Andreas
| She held back her tears the best a mother can
| And I tried to keep my head up and be a family man
| With no direction or a place to call a home
| Well that 101 can turn into an endless road
| And we drove, together through the night
| And we’d never know, how far we’d have to drive
| Just looking out dirty windows, just watching that world go by
| My god how we’d drive
| The road grew weary in the Fall of ‘96
| So I left my mom and that old Ford and tried to be a kid
| I went out on my own tried to find a better way
| But you can fight those good intentions but you can’t make em stay
| And a man tried to kill me one hot August night
| That man wasn’t quick enough and he fell on his own knife
| Now the police are on my trail with a trial date in mind
| So I got back in that old Ford and I took myself a drive
| And I drove on through the night
| And I’d never know, how far I’d have to drive
| Just looking out dirty windows, just watching that world go by
| My god how I’d drive
| So I got on up, out that little town
| I got myself a little wife and I tried to settle down
| I got a job in the city, hell even wore myself a tie
| Worked my fingers to the bone every day, tried to come home every night
| Man its hard to sleep when the 101 do call
| And one day I came home to, well nothing at all
| Just a note that read, you gotta do what inside
| So I got back in that old Ford and I took myself a drive
| And I drove on through the night
| And I never know, how far I’d have to drive
| Just looking out dirty windows, just watching that world go by
| My god how I’d drive |
