| Far up, far out, and high above the Earth
| Should get a simple job where I won’t get hurt
| But now I’m higher than I’ve ever gotten
| The world below looks bitterly deserted, godless and forgotten
| Far up, far out, at twice the speed of sound
| Can’t see a soul, but I could never on the ground
| The scene below is like a puddle of blood
| The sky turned red and the sun went to bed
| And I went on into the deepest darkness I’ve ever known
| I’ve never felt so alone
| Through the night, the cabin lights shine
| Keep me awake, unaware of the time
| I look above to see if anyone is keeping me safe
| I close my eyes, 'cause the view almost drove me insane
| Next I looked up, I was beating the plain, a herd
| And the Injuns appeared to me and offered safe passage of my herd
| And I saw of fire fly out of the world
| No difference between heaven and hell
| Must have meant I was an atheist
| it was thoughtless
| Like a foghorn
| I saw the soldiers' spirits rising through the clouds
| Trying the catalyst there, who’s smiling now
| An avenue where other people believed
| An offer now, of the protection, evil-sleeved |
