| If you only listen with half an ear, you only have a quarter of the right to
| criticise
| So sit down, shut up and listen
| It’s been a hell of a ride through the past few years
| I’ve fought, conquered and gained new fears
| I’ve been built up, broken and rebuilt again
| We’re all in this together, in the lions den
| It seems the worlds run by crazy people
| With no one to stand up for the weak and feeble
| The racists from the history books are out in the streets
| Spouting hate disguised as free speech
| Think this is peace? |
| Get informed
| We’re more divided than ever before
| It’s a wild, wild world, we don’t trust one another
| We’re social animals but we’re eating each other
| So much time spent on our phones
| Hundreds of «friends,» but we feel so alone
| We give the stage to those with no love in their hearts
| Then we act surprised when the fires start
| At each other’s throats, coming to a head
| My newsfeed says we’ll all soon be dead
| Threats of war being thrown around
| But I’ll believe it when the lights go down
| This isn’t peace, get informed |
| This is a different kind of war
| Does it feel familiar, have you seen it before?
| Have we travelled back to 1964?
| Hurtling towards this inevitable end
| It’s now more than ever that we need friends
| The good times will come, we’ll lift the curse
| But before this gets better, it’s gonna get worse
| We live in a culture that’s growing more and more narcissistic everyday.
| We judge our value based on how many likes a photo gets on our Instagram
| account and compare ourselves to celebrities whose heights we could never hope
| to reach
| And while we strive for some semblance of fulfilment in this digital wasteland,
| we ignore the real problems. |
| Outside in the streets people call for the
| slaughter of those who they disagree with, calling for blood and oil,
| threatening to send us back in time to an age where we didn’t know any better
| Those people are living in a world that has long since past, and they can do
| two things. |
| They can either adapt to the new world, or they can be destroyed
| Violence, war, prejudice in the streets |
| Will nothing change till someone bleeds?
| Strip back our disguise, we’re all the same
| Social animals, igniting a flame
| Where do you stand? |
| Who do you believe?
| Do you stay at home watching it on TV?
| Will you defend your flag under attack?
| Or will you stand and salute the red, white and black?
| And from the ashes let it rise
| Something new before our eyes
| Let it rise, let it rise
| We’ve gone too far, let the past die |
